North Korea tested nuclear device for the sixth time.
The market opened slightly higher but mixed last Friday. Hang Seng index rose 45 points but H share index lost 2 points. Tencent rose 0.85% to drive up the index by 26 points. AIA rose 0.75% for 17 point gain. On the contrary, China Construction Bank lost 0.44% for 10 point loss to drag down the H share index. Macau gaming stocks rose on broker upgrade. Sands rose 2.71% and Galaxy rose 1.43% to lead the gainers. A shares opened up 0.22%. Shanghai composite index rose 7 points. The market rose further after opening as mainland banks turned from loss to gain. CCB rose 0.58% to contribute 17 point gain. AIA, Tencent, HK Exchanges and Ping An led the rally. Mengniu’s restructuring was approved. Share price rose 7.11% to lead the gainers. A shares closed the morning up 0.57%. Shanghai composite index closed up 19 points. Hang Seng index reached a morning high of 28117 points, up 147 points. At morning’s close, Hang Seng index rose 87 point. H share index rose 42 points. Turnover was $52.4 billion.
In the afternoon, the market turned from gain to loss. Mainland banks were the culprit for the turnaround. CCB lost 0.73% to cause 13 point loss. ICBC lost 0.85% for 11 point loss. BOC lost 0.97% for 10 point loss. Tencent turned from gain to loss to cause 11 point loss. Handset parts manufacturers continued to rise. Sunny Optical rose 2.8%. Q-Tech rose 5.1%. Black futures rose in China. Coal and steel stocks rose. Angang rose 4.14%. Maanshan rose 1.94%. China Coal rose 3%. Macau reported 20% increase in gaming income. Macau gaming stocks rose. Wynn rose 6.6%. SJM rose 5.1%. MGM rose 4.5%. A shares closed up 0.19%. Shanghai composite index rose 6 points. Hang Seng index closed down 17 points and H share index down 9 points. Turnover was $100.5 billion. For the week, Hang Seng index rose 105 points and H share index lost 3 points.
Last Friday night, overseas markets were slightly higher. European markets edged higher. DAX rose 86 points. FTSE rose 7 points and CAC rose 37 points. US stocks were slightly higher.
